LIL HAYS -
Quilts and Things
Lil Hays was founded by Lillian Hays in Connersville,
Indiana. Lil first started piecing quilts sometime between the age of 10 and 12
years. She didn’t actually make a quilt for some time after that. She has
always had a love for arts and crafts and has made many of them throughout the
years. She is most prolific in her quilting.
Lil loves to make pretty things and things that will bring
joy or fulfill a need in others. She doesn’t like to receive praise for her
items, but loves to see people’s faces brighten with pleasure and appreciation
when they see her handiwork. She especially likes making items that have a
little message for others in them.
Most of Lil’s materials come from scouring various shops
and stores, leftovers from other projects, or are given to her by friends and
family, who are all aware of her great love to quilt. She makes wall quilts in
varying sizes, quilted pillows, quilted coasters, baby quilts, doll quilts,
quilts, table toppers, table runners, pot holders, place mats, and many other
items. She can also do special orders for customers if she can find the right
patterns and materials. She tries to run her company the same way she runs her
life, in honesty, integrity, and to glorify God.

MANUFAKTURA:
The stoneware factory known as “Manufaktura” was
established in 1993. It evolved out of the small business of Smoleński and
Zwierz families. Today, this family partnership is working very well and still
developing. Ten years ago, the factory employed ten people. Presently, they
employ over 190 people. One of the leading producers of stoneware, Manufaktura
decorates Polish pottery by hand using the stamp method. In order to obtain the
highest quality of products, they use only paints they manufacture themselves.
They offer over 250 functional products of all kinds and over 150 original and
sophisticated patterns. They are always open to the suggestions of their
customers. They have used many suggestions to enrich their products and offer
new shapes and designs. Most importantly, they focus on the highest quality and
functionality of their products. They continue to maintain the long-lasting
pottery tradition known in the region of Poland, Boleslawiec, for over 100
years.
Their products are marked with the sign Ceramika
Boleslawiecka to denote authenticity. Their logo has a jug with a “B” inside
it. All their original products have this certificate “stamp” of authenticity
with their logo on them. This has been necessary in order to protect the
marketplace against imitations.
In addition, Manufaktura has won many awards for their
designs, notably the pattern RPB won the award of “Design of the Year 2005.”
Their artists continue to design and craft their individual products with skill
and creativity.
MILLENIUM:
Ceramika Millena, or Millenium, is a producer and exporter
of fine Polish Pottery. They are a family owned stoneware factor based five
miles outside of Boleslawiec, Poland, the historic town where Polish Pottery
originated over 500 years ago. In their workshop, they create pottery from
locally sourced clay. Each piece is shaped in their molds, and then exquisitely
hand decorated and glazed. The piece is then fired to over 2250 degrees
Fahrenheit. All the materials are dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe, cadmium
and lead free. Their pottery is truly natural and ecological because it
involves the use of the four Universal elements—Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire.
Some of the traditional decorations were inspired by the
colors of the peacock’s feather, employing cobalt blue as the predominant
color. Their contemporary designs draw on the warm tones of nature and the four
seasons. The artists of Millenium craft designs with flowers, leaves, stars,
fruit, shells, and many other shapes. They invite you to take a look at their
exquisite designs. They offer only the highest quality pottery to their
customers worldwide. Millenium has years of experience in the exportation of
goods by air and sea. They pride themselves in a strong commitment to customer
relations. All goods are expertly packed for shipment. They are proud of their

P.D. QUTE
Diane Welsh discovered a love of painting twenty three
years ago. She studied acrylic painting through classes for ten years, oil
painting through classes for two years, and practiced, practiced, practiced!
During this time, her love for painting only increased and her joy in producing
art grew.
Diane has broadened her materials and expanded her projects
as she has mastered her skill. She has taken old chairs, tables, desks, wood
shelves, etc. that she has purchased at garage sales or has picked up discarded
alongside the curb and refurbished them, giving them new life and beauty. In
addition, she takes plain glass bulb ornaments and paints beautifully delicate
roses on them. Her gift bags with hand painted roses, teddy bears with
balloons, ornaments, and other designs are a perennial favorite.
Things have not always gone the way Diane Welsh had hoped.
“When my husband became ill and died four years ago, my life was in turmoil.”
For two years, she couldn’t even think about painting. She even gave away all
of her supplies. One day, she decided to paint a gift for her mother. The joy
she experienced creating art for her beloved mother reinforced the joy and
relaxation of the gift of painting she’d been given. Now, she wants to give
that joy to others through her products. Her goal is to design and donate a
Christmas Tree each year for a different charity.

PITTMAN WOOD WORKS:
Pittman Wood Works was started in Dayton, Ohio by Mike
Pittman, a former police officer. “I’ve always loved to work with wood,” he
remarked concerning his business. Mike started by making small pieces of
furniture, wood pictures, and other various items. Once he bought a lathe, he
thought making pens would be fun. It started as a hobby, but people began to
request them, and the company grew from there.
Mike always had a love for art, studying it all four years
of high school and continuing it through college. Although he had no specific
training in working with wood, he combined the art skills God blessed him with
along with a natural talent and taught himself how to apply them to wood.
Most pen makers use a single type of wood to make an entire
pen, like Cherry wood. Pittman Wood Works makes his pens using segmented pieces
of wood to create a design or pattern in the wood. Instead of making a pen out
of a single piece of one kind of wood, he uses various types of wood allowing
their natural colors and grain to “paint” a pattern or picture onto the pen.
Some of his pens have as many as sixty six pieces of wood in them! This
technique requires many hours to create a single pen, but the results are
awesome. These pens are a rare find. In addition, Pittman Wood Works uses
woods from all around the world, allowing their natural color to create the
beauty of each pen.
“I believe we serve a mighty God. Every time I work with
wood, I reflect on how God made the wood and created all kinds of styles and
color. Like life, wood is a life itself, created by God for our use. I catch
myself reflecting on His creation in us and his other creations while working
with wood.”
Many of Pittman Wood Works pens come with a wood case that
can be engraved with a name or picture to commemorate a person or
accomplishment.
ROOT
CANDLES:
The Best Candle in America
The A. I. Root Company was founded in 1869 in Ohio, where
the owner manufactured a beehive that made it possible for beekeepers to harvest
honey without destroying the colony of bees. When a local priest asked for
higher quality candles, Root moved from his beeswax and honey enterprise to
candle making—first making altar candles for churches, then expanding to
decorative candles. A. I. Root was a friend of the Wright Brothers, befriending
them when few others acknowledged their efforts. Root candles, made from
beeswax and soy, are handcrafted, using processes mastered through five
generations and now combined with the latest technologies. They create candles
of lasting fragrance, longer burning because of their beeswax blend, and cleaner
burning each time. Based in Medina, Ohio, their variety of colors, fragrances,
and styles has made them the producer of the finest candles in the country.

THRIFTY TREASURES
Thrifty Treasures was founded by Jayna Dittrich in
Indianapolis, Indiana in 2001. An art degree graduate, Jayna has won awards for
some of her paintings and sculptures. Thrifty Treasures sells mostly bookmarks,
hanging candleholders, and candle snuffers, each uniquely hand-made using pliers
and a drill. Jayna makes each piece herself, twisting wire, then adding beads
and glass.
Candle snuffers by Thrifty Treasures have a unique design;
to snuff out a candle, you use the foot of the snuffer to gently push the wick
into the hot wax, then use the foot to lift the wick back up. This allows
little or no smoke and recoats the wick for the next burn and reduces dripping
wax or wax splatters.
Bookmarks by Thrifty Treasures have multiple layers of wire
for saving several pages at a time, and her candle holders are sturdy enough to
use inside or outside on a patio, porch, garden, or hanging on a shepherd’s
hook. These uniquely crafted products have practical applications and provide
yet another way to function in style.

VINTAGE VERANDAH
Lighting and Home Décor
Vintage Verandah, originally the Elite Lamp Company, was
founded in 1963 by M.L. (Butch) Pike II, in a small Arkansas River town, as a
new business manufacturing plaster lamps. Butch’s two sons entered the business
in 1989 and the company began to focus exclusively on independent specialty
retailers; Vintage Verandah became the sister company to the Elite Lamp Company.
Sales growth by 2001 made Vintage Verandah the larger of
the two divisions, with Elite focused entirely on the furniture industry. Their
objective is to offer trend-right products of value at affordable prices, to
deliver products faster and more efficiently to retailers; to have professional
customer support that reinforces their belief in their product and trust in
their brand, to create lasting customer relationships with honor and ethical
standards reflecting family values, and to provide customers with products that
will make their homes unique and beautiful expressions of themselves.
A family owned company, Vintage Verandah is devoted to the
values of quality, trust and integrity and dedicated to making their company the

VINTAGE LACE:
The Secrets of Vintage Women
and Their Lace
The secret of Vintage Lace is that it’s made by women for
women!
Vintage Lace is authentic hand crocheted lace crocheted
from a fine glazed cotton thread from the long-recognized Coat’s Threat Co. and
needle-like crochet hook that our great grandmothers used. They offer sizes and
designs that date back many generations and offer the highest quality of hand
crochet lace on the market today. Vintage Lace will increase in value and be
cherished by family members for years to come.
Vintage Lace is hand made with exquisite detail. A small
group of women were trained by Irish missionaries years ago to provide an income
for their families. For years they continued to teach each other crochet for
their livelihood; many of thee women are widowed and make this lace in their
homes while raising their children. This remote area of women are the only ones
in the world who have kept this level of crochet style going over the years.

WENDELL
AUGUST
A Tradition of
Craftsmanship
A desire for hand-forged latches for two doors for his
family home inspired Wendell McMinn August to establish the Wendell August Forge
in 1923. Starting with four blacksmiths, the company became the producer of
ornamental hand-wrought iron, including fireplace andirons, candlesticks,
lighting standards, doorknockers, latches and railings, and window and door
grills. When the stock market crashed in 1929, Wendell August lost everything
except the Forge; six workers labored for six months without a paycheck in order
to finish a contract and maintain the company.
In 1931, Wendell August moved the Forge to Grove City,
Pennsylvania, but was forced to shut down during WWII because of the lack of
aluminum supplies for non-military use. He was back in full operation by April,
1946. Post-war efforts to stay in business were difficult, but moving
production toward gifts for business clientele kept the company afloat, though
it dwindled to eight workers. In 1963, Wendell August died and left the company
to his son, Robert, who added a gift shop to the location; in the early 70s they
introduced their line of Collector’s Plates. Before Robert August’s death in
1978, the company was sold to F.W. “Bill” Knecht III, who developed a retail
operation that included workshop tours, antique displays, and other successful
on-site experiences. In 1980, Knecht’s wife introduced a highly successful
annual Christmas ornament, and the company began to expand in various
directions. The Berlin, Ohio location opened in 1994, and is visited by
thousands of tourists annually.
Wendell August was a primary influence in creating
different uses for the first modern metal—aluminum—and for establishing a new
industry based on hand-forging methods. The company continually adapted to
changing times, but has retained the hand-craftsmanship and uniqueness. Each
piece produced by Wendell August bears the mark of the master engraver who
hand-cut the die, hidden within each design. The craftsman who hammers and
forms each item also places his personal touch-mark on the back of each piece.
Every single Wendell August aluminum, bronze, pewter, and sterling silver piece
is painstakingly crafted using many of the same tools and techniques originally
used when their business first began in 1923. Personal engraving can be added
to virtually any of their gift items, enhancing their long tradition of expert
craftsmanship.

WIZA:
Inter-Wiza is a ceramic company situated in Parowa, a small
village near Boleslawiec. They have a wide collection of artistic designer
earthenware. Because of the rich resource of clay in this region, they are able
to produce large quantities without any problem. They stick to the traditional
hand making methods. This traditional technology of ceramic making is enriched
by their hand made decorations, which are covered by a glaze and fired at high
temperatures creating superior quality.
Each and every ware produced in Wiza’s factory is a result
of careful, imaginative, and encouraging commitment from their highly
professional team of workers. All their products are characterized by a light
specific style and rich design. Their products are oven, microwave, and
dishwasher safe due to the resistance of high temperature and mechanical
actions.
Ceramika Artystyczna “Wiza” started its operation in 1963
under the tutelage of Mr. Stanislaw Wiza. Despite the difficult economic
situation in Poland, the company was able to survive and develop to its present
state of 120 workers due to his elasticity and careful management. The quality
of their products is highly competitive in the international market, which is
why they are in such high demand. This manufacturer is known for being top in
product quality and top in customer service.
WR:
WR Unikat has over 20 years experience in the ceramics
industry. Unikat is a Polish word meaning unique. Unikat is an apt description
for the Polish pottery made by this factory, WR Unikat. It is a very high
quality and well made product. Like many other factories in the Boleslawiec
region, WR located its factory there in order to utilize the high quality clay
that is available for making the special Polish pottery stoneware that com3es
from the region. For years, WR made high quality ceramics, but did not make the
traditional Polish pottery tableware. Due to the booming market, WR decided to
start their own line of Polish pottery stoneware. When they did, they entered
with a new concept in design. They decided to make a Unikat product, hence
their name—WR Unikat.
Polish pottery from WR Unikat is hand painted in unique,
flowery patterns. They have a large selection, but will custom design pieces
when ordered at factory minimums. The company prides itself on quality and
service. All their products are microwave, oven, dishwasher, and freezer safe.
All products sold are first grade. There are many exciting patterns from which
to choose.
ZAKLADY CERAMICZNE:
Zaklady Ceramiczne is renowned for their beautiful hand-finished, original
style, and highly practical products. They are one of the oldest and largest
companies in the region of Boleslawiec. They have been awarded many top prizes
for industrial design, including “Design of the Year” in 1996. Their items have
a unique design, drawing from several hundreds of years of tradition of Polish,
Czech, and German pottery making, a distinct stylistic canon, known in German as
Bunzlauer Geschirr. Significantly older Boleslawiec ceramic patterns have
endured throughout the generations in family homes. An integral part of the
Silesian culture, these dishes have great sentimental value to Poles and Germans
alike. The products manufactured by ceramic masters of Boleslawiec were known
throughout time not only in Poland, but also in Germany and Bohemia.
Although the inspiration came from past accomplishments, contemporary
Boleslawiec ceramics have been creatively refined by designers and adjusted to
meet the requirements of modern cuisine, taking into account vessels typical of
different regions of Europe. Zaklady uses the technique of stamping. Their
product range is based on handmade and hand-decorated tableware and kitchenware,
an alternative to the unified deprivation of individual character associated
with mass production. A vast majority of their tableware is hand-cast in gypsum
molds, whereas their garden and utility stoneware is formed on potter’s wheels.
They have a wide range of products in each category to appeal to the varied
tastes of their customers. This would not be possible with a manufacturer using
automated production.
